International call to young group leader position in biomedical research
CLOSED
The Institut Pasteur de Montevideo is an international scientific institution recently founded in Montevideo, Uruguay. The IP Montevideo aims to constitute an international scientific resident community in close collaboration with regional research institutions, the Institut Pasteur of Paris and its international network. The mission of the IP Montevideo is to contribute to the development of biomedical research in the MERCOSUR region, by strengthening research and education in post-genomics biomedicine and biotechnology.
We are seeking outstanding applicants for a young group leader position starting in 2010. The group will be supported by state of the art core facilities in genomics, protein biochemistry, proteomics, structural biology, cellular and molecular biology and bioinformatics. It will receive an intramural funding of US$ 100.000 per year, over 5 years, plus an incentive to cover installation costs. Up to 50% of the fund can be used to cover salaries. The group leader will have no formal teaching duties and minimal administrative responsibilities. Individual research groups will be limited to a maximum of six members. The IP Montevideo will host international courses, and group leaders will be encouraged to participate as well as to organize meetings in their own areas of interest.
Applications fully exploiting our core facilities and having scientific excellence will be privileged. We will strongly encourage, support and value research collaboration between groups as a mechanism to promote innovative biomedical research. In addition, applications from any talented young researcher—from any research background—with innovative ideas in any area of basic biomedical research will be considered.
Biologists, biochemists, medical doctors, other graduates in life sciences, chemists, computer scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and physicists may apply provided they obtained a PhD degree or holds a postdoctoral position. Previous experience in biomedical research or related technical research is required as well as an excellent record of publications.
The position is granted for 5 years. In exceptional cases it could be renewed for a second period through re-competition.
Special consideration will be given to candidates presenting a letter of support from a research institution or University belonging to the MERCOSUR countries or Chile, establishing the potential interest to recruit the candidates after the Award is finished.
