Scientific center of excelence
Since one major aim of the IP Montevideo is to become a regional scientific reference center, important efforts were carried out to develop this international dimension. To accomplish this goal the IP Montevideo has:
- Integrated the AMSUD-PASTEUR network, which integrates more than 50 academic institutions from the MERCOSUR-CHILE region and provided the office for this network;
- Established an active relationship with the Argentinian CONYCET. This last institution has financed 8 post-doctoral positions in the IP Montevideo. In addition, an active collaboration is developed with many academic Argentinian institutions (IBR, Rosario, Max Planck Argentina, Buenos Aires, INGEBI, Buenos Aires, Universidad de San Martín, Buenos Aires, etc;
- Established an active collaboration with the FIOCRUZ laboratories from Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba and with the University of Porto Alegre;
- Established a collaboration with the University of Chile, Santiago de Chile. In that sense the IP Montevideo core facilities are frequently solicited by the scientists of the region.
More recently, a collaborative project involving the Max Planck Institute from Buenos Aires, the FIOCRUZ Institute from Rio de Janeiro, the Ministery of Health from Paraguay and the IP Montevideo was presented to the RECYT (Red de Ciencia y Tecnología del MERCOSUR) and received the approval of this Institution, which will support it at the level of the FOCEM (Fondos de Convergencia Estructural del MERCOSUR). In addition, the teaching courses organized by IP Montevideo convoked an important number of young and brilliant students from the region and a considerable number of relevant scientists from the region have delivered lectures in the IP Montevideo.
